Undercover sting nets two city cops

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 7, 2010

It started with an unrelated drug case. A person arrested recently said 25th District cops were mixed up in the narcotics trade. Word got to Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey via the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigations, so he personally called District Attorney Seth Williams. A sting was arranged.

On Monday night, police officers Sean Alivera and Christopher Luciano were arrested for allegedly attempting to rob someone they thought was a drug dealer who turned out to be an undercover city cop. Investigators said the officers intended to have an unnamed dealer they knew resell 20 pounds of marijuana they took.

Williams said some of the stolen $3,000 was in the officers’ pockets when they were arrested, in uniform, at the 25th District precinct. The undercover officer was still being held there.

“People think it’s OK to rob a drug dealer or to rape a prostitute because they won’t report it to police,” Williams said. “It’s not. For a police officer to do so is appalling.”

Ramsey said Alivera, 31, and Luciano, 23, “were not on our radar” before the investigation was initiated. Internal Affairs will investigate the partners’ previous arrests for any wrongdoing. “I can’t stand here and rule that out,” said Ramsey, noting the department will dismiss the officers and remove their badges from future service. “Losing a job is the least of their worries right now.”

The officers face robbery, kidnapping, false imprisonment and other charges.

Cleaning house

Asked about similarities between this case and three officers — including one from the 25th — arrested in July for allegedly shaking down a heroin dealer who turned out to be an undercover DEA agent, Ramsey said his anti-corruption push “could get worse before it gets better. We wouldn’t have to clean house if it wasn’t dirty in the first place.”

Two Philly Cops Rob Undercover Cop For $24,000 Marijuana & $3,000 In Cash!

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 7, 2010

People wonder why folks don’t like cops…well here’s a prime example.  These two d*ck-heads robbed an undercover cop for $24,000 of marijuana and $3,000 in cash.

Peep game

Two Philadelphia police officers have been charged with criminal conspiracy, robbery, kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, theft, and other related charges, according to officials.

Sean Alivera, 31, and Christopher Luciano, 23, allegedly robbed a supposed drug dealer of 20 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $24,000 as well as $3,000 in cash. It turns out that the man they thought was a drug dealer was actually an undercover officer.

Authorities also believe that the two planned to have the drugs redistributed on the street by an un-named drug dealer.

“These two men are a disgrace to their badges, but they should not reflect on the hard working men and women in the police department,” said Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.

At least five Philadelphia officers have been accused or convicted in the past year of trying to rob drug dealers. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey reportedly plans to clean house in the 6,600-member department.

“As far as corrupt cops, if they want to continue to do what they’re doing we will find them, we will arrest them and they will be prosecuted, period,” said Ramsey. “There is no middle ground here. Absolutely none.”

“Crazy” Woman gets suspended from Kraft foods and comes back with a gun killing 2 employees and injurying 1……

Posted by yoMcLovin on September 10, 2010

PHILADELPHIA- Philadelphia police have identified a woman accused of fatally shooting of two co-workers after being suspended from a Kraft Foods plant.

The official tells The Associated Press that the woman being held is Kraft worker Yvonne Hiller of northeast Philadelphia. She is in custody but no charges have been announced.

The police official was not authorized to release the name ahead of a scheduled news conference later Friday and spoke on condition of anonymity. The official says it remains unclear why the two were killed and a third critically injured while others nearby were not targeted.

Authorities say Hiller was suspended Thursday and escorted out but returned soon after, driving through a security barrier and then opening fire inside the plant just after 8:30 p.m.

The shooting happened inside a plant of the nation’s largest food manufacturer, whose products include Oreo cookies, Philadelphia cream cheese and Oscar Mayer bacon, Lt. Frank Vanore said.

The woman now reported as Yvonne Hiller returned to the building in a car 10 minutes after being escorted out and drove through a security barrier before re-entering the building on foot, Vanore said.

As she walked inside, she fired a shot at an employee who had followed her in and had yelled, “Hide, she’s got a gun!” Vanore said. That shot missed.

The woman then shot the three victims, said police, who didn’t immediately know the victims’ identities or whether they had been targeted. Officers responded and isolated the shooter in a room, and she fired a shot at them but missed, Vanore said.

Officers freed seven people who were “in a bad position” near the woman and were hiding, Vanore said, but he wouldn’t refer to them as hostages. The shooter eventually was apprehended around 9:30 p.m., he said.

Television footage showed workers leaving the Northfield, Ill.-based company’s plant, which used to be known as the Nabisco factory and is about six stories tall. Police surrounded the plant minutes after the shooting, and roads in the area were detoured as officers swarmed nearby.

Dough mixer Andy Ryan, who has worked at the plant for nearly 30 years, said he was on the third floor when the sound of the shots echoed through the building, where cookies and crackers are made.

“I heard the gunfire, and I ran,” he told The Associated Press, his apron still on. “As I was running down the steps they were yelling, ‘Oh, my God, there’s three people shot!”‘

The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper reported that about 100 people were inside the plant but had been cleared out.
Kraft said in a statement that in addition to the three employees who were shot, a contract worker suffered a less serious injury, but it did not elaborate.

“This is a sad day for the Kraft Foods family,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. The loss of a loved one is a great sorrow.”

Kraft said the plant would be closed until further notice and the company would provide employees with counseling.

Mass shootings are rarely carried out by women, said Dr. Park Dietz, president of Threat Assessment Group Inc., a Newport Beach, Calif.-based violence prevention firm. Some notable exceptions include a 1985 rampage at a mall in Springfield, Pa., that left three people dead and seven wounded. Sylvia Seegrist was found guilty of murder but mentally ill in that case and was given three life sentences. She said in 1991 she hoped she wouldn’t have to spend the rest of her life in prison and “maybe 15 or 20 years would be fair.”

Earlier this year, Amy Bishop, a former instructor and researcher at the University of Alabama’s Huntsville campus, was charged with murder in a campus shooting spree that left three biology professors dead and three other employees injured. She claimed the shootings “didn’t happen.”

Philly tax demands blog bucks

Philly tax demands blog bucks

Bloggers beware: In Philadelphia, your opinion may come with a price — which the city bureaucracy  wants from you for the right to write online.

The “blogger’s business fee” gained critical steam via alt-weekly attention last week and a Twitter-frenzy yesterday after the taxman sent letters demanding one-time $300 BPT payments from bloggers. By Monday, the phrase “Philadelphia taxing bloggers” drew 2.2 million Google results.

The primary issue online is over freedom of speech for bloggers making no, or little, money. One website called it “medieval,” but Philly City Hall said yesterday that many in the blogosphere have got it wrong.

“If you don’t generate revenues from the enterprise — like a mom blogging about her kids or someone blogging as a creative outlet without ads — you don’t need to pay taxes,” spokeswoman Maura Kennedy said.

The city didn’t share how the blogger list was compiled or how they’ll discern between profitable ones and non-moneymakers.
