Nicki Minaj speaks on her “Monster” collaboration, envious female rappers & fear of failure in YRB Magazine. Check out a few excerpts and the full spread below:
On “Monster” Being The Pivotal Moment In Her Career
That has to be the breakout Nicki Minaj moment. That was my moment “People paid attention because of who was on it and because I held my own and I stayed true to my crazy animation, and it’s like I didn’t have to take my fun stuff out. I was able to incorporate Nicki Minaj on a record with Jay-Z and Kanye West. And I think people know that’s a difficult task in itself.”
On Female Rappers Who Don’t Support Her
These girls aren’t mad at me. They’re mad at themselves,” she states, shooting down questions on why she never took Kim’s bait. “[It’s] jealousy, insecurity and being broke. When you haven’t capitalized and you see I’m about to capitalize on this sh*t like it’s never been done before, then you’re mad at yourself.
On being afraid to release her album
I was so afraid to put out an album for fear of failure. I wanted to put my album out on Valentine’s Day of 2011. And my label was like, are you f*cking crazy?”
On Pink Friday
I know that Pink Friday is a classic album. I have never been this proud of anything in my life,” she says. “I just think that it’s such a dynamic body of work. I’m no longer afraid to drop it. Now, I know it’s time.
This Rumor has been flowing through Radio stations and Blogs ever since this morning (October 20) thanks to a report claiming that pop/R&B singer Beyonce Knowles is pregnant. According to Us Weekly the singer is already in her first trimester.
The singer was shocked. She loves kids, but she isnt ready to be a mother just yet,” a source revealed to Us Weekly. Beyonce really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again.
Another source revealed that news of Beyonce’s possible pregnancy was “a gift from God” and that the 29-year-old singer is “so happy” right now.
Although this will be the couple’s first child Beyonce already has the support of many including her sister Solange Knowles.
“She’s got the most beautiful heart,” revealed Solange Knowles when asked about her old sister and motherhood. “She’ll be a great mom.”
Jay-Z and Beyonce have been togeather for hell of a long time; they been togeather since the middle of 2002, and were married in April of 2008. Beyonce or Jay-Z has confirmed the pregnancy rumor.

The TSS boys reveal that Chris recently linked up with Rico Love‘s Division 1 imprint on Universal Motown and finally has a proper label pushing his music. That’s what’s up, that means he’ll finally get to use that flow Peedi Crakk says Jay-Z stole from him. No shots.

Jay-Z is the king of subliminal disses. Most of the time, rappers and fans have to dissect his lyrics trying to figure out who Hov is going at. But he obviously wasn’t too worried about MC Hammer replying back to his diss on Kanye West’s “So Appalled” record, because he mentioned him by name.
“I lost 30 mill, so I spent another 30 / ’cause unlike Hammer, 30 mill can’t hurt me.” Jigga spit on the track.
Well, Hammer was listening and he’s heated, repyling to Jay on Twitter and on film by releasing a video showing him hitting a punching bag
“Warming up… all substance.. no hype… What’s the rhyme that can make you tough??? Yeah.. Ok… thats what I thought.. Slap the taste out them #HellBoys mouths… #IamHammer,” is written in the video description.
“Hellboy” is the nickname Hammer has given Jay-Z, possibly referring to rumors that Hov is a satanis
Hammer became famous and wildly popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s with songs like “U Can’t Touch This.”
He made millions, and then lost most of it due to bad investments and lavish spending that included a $12 million dollar crib. So that Jigga line has got him feeling like he’s gotta fight back….literally.
This is a strange beef. Check out Hammer, who recently became an MMA promoter, going at his punching bag (Jigga) in the video below.
Jay-Z is making his latest entrepreneurial move in the world of publishing, with the upcoming release of his first official book Decoded. Shawn Carter is teaming up with publisher Spiegel & Grau to release the tome, which provides insight into the lyrics and life of the man from Marcy Projects.
The book, boasting an inkblot from Andy Warhol’s Rorschach on its cover, tells the intimate stories behind 36 of Hov’s songs, with plans to release the book on November 16 as an eBook and an iPhone/iPad app that offers exclusive video and customizable content.
“When I first started working on this book, I told my editor that I wanted it to do three important things,” explained Jay-Z in a statement. “The first was to make the case that hip-hop lyrics—not just my lyrics, but those of every great MC—are poetry if you look at them closely enough.
“The second was I wanted the book to tell a little bit of the story of my generation, to show the context for the choices we made at a violent and chaotic crossroads in recent history. And the third piece was that I wanted the book to show how hip-hop created a way to take a very specific and powerful experience and turn it into a story that everyone in the world could feel and relate to.”
Jay-Z is confirming that the 9-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is an official Roc Nation signee.
Hov hopped Ryan Seacrest’s morning radio show today (Sept. 9) to explain Willow’s joining the Roc roster. “I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded by a nine year old and I was like man that records a smash,” Jay-Z told Seacrest. “I believe in superstars. I believe on big records on superstars and I think she has both.”
During the Seacrest interview, the precocious singer talked about hating math homework and inheriting her individuality from her mama.
Explaining the meaning of “Whip My Hair,” Willow, whose musical inspirations include Michael Jackson and Billy Idol, said, “It means just being an individual. You can’t be afraid to be yourself and you can’t let anybody tell you that that’s wrong… My mom and me are very strong individuals. A lot of people don’t act like themselves so they’re not happy.”
“She has a clear vision of what she wants and who she wants to be,” said Jay-Z. “I don’t want to go so far but I can imagine that’s how Mike was as a young kid. He knew exactly what he wanted.”
When Seacrest asked, “Did you ever worry she’s too young?” Jay-Z reminded him how early the King of Pop got started.
“I believe you have to start somewhere. When you have that sort of talent and you have that sort of vision, there’s no such thing as too young. Again, I heard the record without knowing who it was. It’s a hit record,” said Jay. “If you listen to any comments, everyone says I can’t believe that as an adult that you like a record that’s made by a 9-year-old. But we all danced to Michael Jackson records when he was 8. Stevie Wonder started at 8.”
His advice to Willow: “Just enjoy the process and have fun doing it and just stay true to the values that she had coming in the door.” -vibe.com
CHECK OUT WILLOW SMITH’S HIT SINGLE “WHIP MY NEW HAIR”
I think Jay-Z was definitely coming at Beans with this one. Talk about a super collaboration, but this song bored me until Nicki Minaj powered herself into the song. I think she was taking jabs at Lil Kim, too. I guess everybody had to get something off their chest
Jay-Z claimed to make a Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee could, and now, he gets the chance to prove it. Today, it was announced that Hov has teamed up with the Bronx Bombers to release a limited line of merchandise which include T-Shirts and f***ed caps with his Blueprint 3 insignia.
The gear will be available this Monday (August 30th) and sold exclusively at Yankee Stadium’s Great Hall Team Store until the concerts on September 13th and 14th.
