Kind of Good News: T.I Wont Be Charged in LA Arrest but Still Faces Parole Violation

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 26, 2010

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County District   Attorney has rejected the drug case stemming from last month’s arrest. Apparently there are some legal issues involving probable cause.

Cops claimed they smelled marijuana but no pot was ever booked into evidence. And, we’re told… T.I. was pulled out of his $250,000 Maybach immediately after he made the illegal U-turn and prior to any registration check.

T.I. will still have to serve some jail time though as the arrest still violates his probation.

T.I Going Back To Prison, Serving 11 Months For Violating The Terms of His Probation

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 16, 2010

T.I. will be making prison his home for 11 more months for violating his probation:

Atlanta-based rapper T.I. will serve 11 more months in prison for violating the terms of his probation.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, appeared before U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. at 2 p.m.

He was represented by a team of six attorneys, including Don Samuel, Ed Garland, Steve Sadow, Janice Capek, Kristen Wright and Dwight Thomas.

T.I. was still on probation for federal weapons charges when he was arrested Sept. 1 on drug charges in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were taken into custody during a traffic stop in West Hollywood in which deputies said they smelled a strong odor of marijuana from inside the car. They were soon released on bond.

After the arrest, a U.S. probation officer alleged that T.I. committed three violations of his supervised release from prison: possessing ecstasy, testing positive for opiates and associating with a convicted felon. Pannell then ordered T.I. to appear back before him in court on Friday.

T.I. had been released from federal custody in March after serving a yearlong sentence in prison and a halfway house. After his arrest on federal gun charges, T.I.’s legal team brokered an extraordinary plea agreement that allowed him to shave about four years off his prison time on the condition he perform 1,000 hours of community service telling kids about the pitfalls of crime, drugs and gangs.

T.I. completed his community service and got the sentence he wanted. But he was still on probation when he was arrested at the traffic stop on Sept. 1.

T.I could be going back to JAIL for a long time if convicted of drug charges!

Posted by yoMcLovin on September 3, 2010

T.I.’s arrest for drug possession on Wednesday could get the hip-hop icon back in jail, says Steven Knowles, a lawyer not representing the “Got Your Back” rapper.

T.I. and his wife, Tameka Cottle, were arrested in West Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the Associated Press. Deputies pulled their car over after smelling marijuana and arrested them on suspicion of possessing methamphetamines.

The trouble comes at a pivotal moment in T.I.’s career and personal life. His film Takers, which he acted in as well as co-executive produced, opened in theaters at No. 1 last weekend. His album, ironically called King Uncaged, is scheduled for a September 28 release. He just married Cottle in July, and was released from a halfway house in March.

This could put his life on hold.

Lawyer Steven Knowles suspects that, if convicted, T.I. could face a multiple-year jail sentence. “This is big-time,” Knowles told Yahoo! Music. “I really don’t envy his defense lawyer.”

Prior to serving three months in the halfway house, T.I. spent seven months in a federal prison in Arkansas for illegal firearms possession and possessing a gun as a convicted felon.

According to the Associated Press, as a condition of his three-year-parole, he was forbidden from committing another federal, state or local crime, or illegally possessing a controlled substance. Drug tests and participation in a drug and alcohol treatment program were also required.

The new allegations will not be taken lightly, said Knowles, a family attorney who has represented Britney Spears and Nicole Kidman, among others. “[T.I.’s] celebrity is not likely going to get him off of this,” he said. “This is now a repeated offense. That’s when even the celebrity get-out-of-jail card is not going to work.”

Knowles believes T.I.’s celebrity will probably ensure a more stringent ruling. “In fact, for them to take it light on him now would look like over-favoritism because he’s a celebrity, and I think, if anything, his celebrity may actually backfire.”

Knowles believes that Cottle, co-star of BET’s Tiny & Toya and a member of the ‘90s R&B group Xscape, could avoid jail time because of their children. “That is a big factor when it comes to sentencing,” he said. “I can tell you from my experience as a family lawyer that celebrity or not, courts loathe to jail moms, particularly if there’s not going to be a dad at home to care for the kids as well. This would mean kids would have no parents.”

One important factor in determining a potential sentence will be the quantity of drugs in possession. “If [the] quantity is large enough to be selling or even sharing with third parties, that could make a big difference,” Knowles said.

Before the lead-up to his 2009 jail term, T.I. starred in an MTV reality series, Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go, which documented him speaking to kids about his regrettable decisions.

While incarcerated, T.I. taught a course on self-enrichment to inmates who were unsure how to prepare for life after prison. In a recent interview with Yahoo! Music, T.I. said it was too early to tell whether his course was helpful for the attendants because the real challenge of discipline arises after release.

“It’s easy to be on the straight and narrow when you in the joint because it ain’t no temptation,” he said. “You don’t really got too much room to roam. Now, once you leave up out of them gates, walk back out there in that free world, breathe that air, your mentality then — that’s what counts.”

In July, he told AP he was more focused on positivity. “Right now, it’s all about moving forward, and just acknowledging the blessings that are here today. … Just moving past the regrets of yesterday – the things that could’ve been done better,” he said.

Unfortunately, for now, T.I.’s immediate future looks grim.

WTF!! BUSTED AGAIN T.I AND TINY ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Posted by yoMcLovin on September 2, 2010

Another day, another run-in with the law for T.I. According to TMZ, he and his wife Tiny were arrested early this morning for alleged possession of a controlled substance.

TMZ has learned they were arrested tonight and booked for the alleged possession of a controlled substance. Law enforcement sources tell us L.A. County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over the multi-platinum selling rapper and his wife in a Maybach on Sunset Boulevard around 10:30PM. Deputies say they smelled marijuana, and after searching the vehicle they arrested T.I. and Tameka. The couple just got married on July 30 in Miami, and T.I. — real name Clifford Harris Jr. — is on probation after doing seven months in prison on federal weapons charges. We’re told T.I. and Tameka are in custody right now. Bail amount is $10,000.

(UPDATE) T.I and Tiny were released around 4:00am this morning.

Tiny is proving to be a true ride or die chick. I’m disappointed in TIP. He was doing so well…SMH. He will be back in jail memorizing the dictionary if he keeps this up.

In better news, his new film Takers beat out The Last Exorcism to snag the number #1 spot at the box office this past weekend.

T.I. Covers Upscale Magazine (September / October 2010)

Posted by yoMcLovin on September 1, 2010

Clifford is on two covers of the September and October issue of Upscale magazine.

On his new album:
This project just like all of my projects will be a open window into my life, what I’m going through, how I feel and where I am right now.

On where he is:
I’m still learning and growing everyday. I do believe this project is in some ways the final installment of a trilogy. TI vs. TIP being the first one…. I hope that events of my life are captured in music in all of my records. So they were there for the beginning, they saw the middle (with Paper Trail) and now the only thing left to be seen is the conclusion.

On the advice he’d give to young Clifford Harris:
I would say man, if you knew what I knew, you would chill out… I would tell myself you’re going to be alright later on, all you have to do is cool out, you might not see it right now, but you have a reason to fall back. I just hope that I would listen.

On his best and worst character traits:
I can manage to be arrogant or confident as well as be humble and possess a certain level of humility. I can be aggressive and I can also be mild mannered.

On his future in hip hop:
I know I still have the ability to do it, but I don’t know if I have as much passion to do it as I once did… I might find that I’m more effective in another capacity, but I won’t know if I don’t ever try. I have other talents and abilities that I may not be paying any attention to because I have this first one that I’m very fond of and I’ve grown attached to… As an artist I still would like to be better, but as an artist, I think TI has had a stellar career already.

On loyalty getting in the way of business:
…If I say I’m gonna ride with you, I’m gonna ride with you. That’s personally, professionally. So even if I know that you might not be all what everyone else thinks you’re cracked up to be, I’m still gonna ride it out with you. It does get tiresome and it does get gruesome at time, but I don’t know no other way to be.

On being a daddy:
I make them look up different places and ask them where would they like to go. I just spend time with them. I try to stimulate their interests and build on that.

On his favorite quality in a woman:
Just having that instinct of when to take charge and when to fall back.

Whip Game Proper (in my T.I voice)

Posted by yoMcLovin on August 24, 2010

T.I. tore up the Las Vegas strip this past weekend at the annual Magic convention, held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The 29-year-old was on hand to unveil a one-of-a-kind R 1 motorcycle, a collaboration between the Yamaha & Voodoo Custom Sport Bikes and the rapper’s AKOO clothing brand.

The bike, customized by Voodoo Industries’ Rob Uecker, retails for a healthy $80,000, featuring wood paneling, air ride rear suspension, full custom paint inspired by AKOO’s style and integrated turn signals. Sporting selections from his clothing brand, T.I. mounted the bike as convention-goers snapped pictures from the sidelines, getting a first glimpse of the vehicle. We wouldn’t mind riding that mean-looking whip, either.

Making Moves T.I prepping for animated series ‘Lil Homies’

Posted by yoMcLovin on August 23, 2010

T.I. is still deciding on the final track list for his upcoming album King Uncaged — a rather daunting process, considering he recorded some 80 songs (including a track featuring Lady Gaga) for the project. But that doesn’t mean he’s not working on other endeavors — like, for example, a cartoon.

In an interview last week on Sirius’ Shade 45, Tip confirmed that he’s developing an animated series called “Lil Homies.” He’ll serve as a producer on the show, and he’s also considering lending his vocal talents to the project.

“I’m actually working on a TV show right now as a producer,” he told Shade 45’s Angela Yee. “[It’s] a cartoon … called ‘Lil Homies.’ I may do, like, voice over [work] … like a narrator.”

T.I. said that “Homies” still is without a network, but he’s pushing ahead with the series regardless, even saying that he’d use his producer clout to cast Yee as “a neighborhood freak.”

If and when the series hits TV, Tip will join a long list of rappers who have crossed over to the animated world: Outkast’s Andre 3000, whose series “Class of 3000” ran on the Cartoon Network in 2006; T-Pain, who served as executive producer of (and lent his voice to) “Freaknik: The Musical” earlier this year; and Danger Mouse and MF Doom, who released an album and an EP (2005’s The Mouse and the Mask and ’06’s Occult Hymn) that featured beats taken from Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” programming, and more than a few cameos by “Adult Swim” stars.
