British design firm seeks to rebrand American currency with Barack Obama on dollar bill

Posted by yoMcLovin on December 21, 2010

Dowling Duncan — a graphic design firm with offices in San Francisco and Newark, England — thinks that American currency needs a new look, so its designers have submitted an entry in the “Dollar Rede$ign Project,” which bills itself as a movement to “rebuild financial confidence and revive our failing economy” by rebranding the U.S. dollar.

Dowling Duncan’s submission is a rendering that appears quite European-ish, and envisions current President Barack Obama replacing George Washington on the dollar bill. Fast Company’s Suzanne LaBarre praised the Dowling Duncan design, writing, “The Obama bill anchors their sweeping concept for redesigning U.S. banknotes … The impetus: The greenback has an image problem. It has come to represent everything that’s wrong with the American economy, and worse, with its cartoonish graphics and vaguely sinister styling, it actually looks the part.”

Of course, the critics who assailed Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize as an unearned laurel are probably seeing red over him appearing, even hypothetically, on something as iconic as the dollar bill. But Dowling Duncan has proposed a host of other currency makeovers as well. For starters, it suggests giving each denomination a different color, while varying their size to make them easier to distinguish: The smaller the denomination, the smaller the size would be, with the $100 bill the largest of the bunch.

Obama aside, Dowling Duncan eschews the traditional presidential portrait in favor of higher-concept graphic images on the bills. The firm envisions an American Indian teepee on the $5 bill, the Bill of Rights on the $10, a mashup of American ingenuity on the $20, a bald eagle and 50 stars on the $50, and FDR’s image and a list of his accomplishments in his first 100 days as president on the C-note.

The firm offers up the reasoning behind the proposed makeovers in an explanatory note: “We wanted a concept behind the imagery so that the image directly relates to the value of each note. We also wanted the notes to be educational, not only for those living in America but visitors as well. Each note uses a black-and-white image depicting a particular aspect of American history and culture. They are then overprinted with informational graphics or a pattern relating to that particular image.”

The visual orientation of the Dowling Duncan bills is vertical, as opposed to traditional horizontal layout of American currency. The firm says that its research shows that this alteration was a no-brainer.

“When we researched how notes are used we realized people tend to handle and deal with money vertically rather than horizontally,” they say. “You tend to hold a wallet or purse vertically when searching for notes. The majority of people hand over notes vertically when making purchases. All machines accept notes vertically. Therefore a vertical note makes more sense.”

That’s all well and good, but how would these notes would look in your wallet? Well, Dowling Duncan has also prototyped a rendering of the currency venturing out into the economic wilderness, below:

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill vs. Philadelphia Police Department

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 15, 2010

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill Files $1Million Lawsuit Against The Philadelphia Police Department

Many of you might remember Dr. Marc Lamont Hill for the eloquent way he addressed Slim Thug’s ignorant comments towards black women.  Well this brother is back in the news and suing the shyte out of the Philadelphia Police (PIGS) department for harrassment.

Peep game

(AllHipHop News) Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, a Hip-Hop intellectual and associate college professor, has filed a $1 million dollar lawsuit against the Philadelphia police, claiming officers are harassing him.

Dr. Hill, an Associate Professor at Columbia University at Teachers College, filed the lawsuit in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, claiming that two officers harassed him.

Dr. Hill, who is currently a political contributor for Fox News Channel, regularly appears on programs such as The O’Reilly FactorHuckabee, and Hannity in addition to being featured on other channels like CNNMSNBC, and CourtTV

According to the lawsuit, the incident unfolded on June 17th in the city of Philadelphia, when Dr. Hill to produce his vehicle registration, to which Hill complied.

After questioning why he was being stopped, Officer Decoatsworth allegedly yanked Hill out of the car by his arm, pushed his fist into his back and asked Hill if he “could afford” his vehicle.

As this occurred, another unnamed officer searched through Hill’s vehicle without his consent.

Officer DeCoatsworth then told Hill to “get out of this neighborhood and go home” and never charged the professor with a crime.

Dr. Hill, who is a resident of Philadelphia, earned his P.H.D from the University of Pennsylvania. He claims the officers violated his First, Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment rights.

“The Constitutional violations suffered by Plaintiff were the result of the City’s policies, procedures, customs and practices of allowing its officers to make stops without reasonable suspicion, and to use unreasonable and excessive force thereby violating the civil rights of those with whom they come into contact,” Hill’s lawyer Leonard K. Hill said in court papers.

Dr. Marc Lamont-Hill recently made headlines when he responded to an editorial Slim Thug wrote about his opinion on relationships with black women, in Vibe Magazine.

Dr. Hill has also been featured on television on a regular basis, where he has discussed a variety of topics, including Hip-Hop culture.

He is seeking a trial by jury, suing the Philadelphia Police Department for at least $1 million dollars.

Beanie Sigel News – First foreclosure, now Tax evasion “C’mon Son”

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 7, 2010

The “great opportunity” asking price for the brick Colonial in Landsale with two fireplaces, skylights and 9-foot ceilings was $349,000. Yet even though the opening price at the Montgomery County sheriff’s sale was just the property’s $264,000 mortgage debt, nobody bid.

So a Utah bank simply took back the deed for the house of Dwight Grant, aka Beanie Sigel.

By yesterday, the foreclosure was the least of his problems. U.S. Attorney David Memeger announced his office charged the 36-year-old with failing to file tax returns from 2002 to 2004. An IRS investigation determined he earned more than $1.54 million during that time. The minimum income to file is less than $24,000.

Though Grant faces three years in federal prison, a $300,000 fine and one-year supervised release, his attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. said they’ve been working with the government to resolve the tax issues and “hope to do so in the near future.”

“There’s no question he didn’t file the returns. It was from a time when he was struggling with earlier criminal problems and others were handling his money while he was incarcerated,” Perri said. “Someone put hands on his money when they shouldn’t have.”

Grant was sentenced to a year and a day in prison after being guilty of federal weapons charges in Oct. 2004. The initial foreclosure filing was Halloween 2007.

“He’s alright. It’s something he was aware of,” Perri said of Grant’s reaction.

Karrine Steffans a.k.a (SuperHead) is Releasing Another Book

Posted by yoMcLovin on October 1, 2010

Karrine Steffans has put the d*cks down – well at least it looks like it.  She has been getting her money by releasing books that wind up on the Best Sellers list.  She has another sex tome coming at you…

*Perhaps being a video vixen pays off after a while. Karrine Steffans recently turned into a NY Times best seller as she is making ready her latest bit of sexiness, “SatisFaction: Erotic Fantasies for the Advanced and Adventurous Couple.”

It won’t be released until next year August unfortunately (for her fans), but there is great anticipation for this one. This will be her fourth publication as follow-up from her 2009 bestseller “Vixen Manuel: How to Find, Seduce, and Keep the Man You Want.”

“‘SatisFaction’ is half erotic fiction, half how-to, and 100 percent titillating,” says Steffans. “Pleasure yourself with each snippet, then come back, monthly, for more.”

Along with the new book, fans will have the chance to view her video trailer.

“It’s the first-ever book trailer mini-series. I’m looking forward to making the others,” she told BV Buzz. She’s working on getting her own boy toy for her next line of book trailers.

“I’m casting in Los Angeles for a hunky love interest. I’m also looking for extras for upcoming episodes too. I’m having fun with this new concept. I love being creative,” said the spider to the fly, er, Steffans.
